Itinerary:

DAY 1: CORINTH, PATRA, RION – ANTIRION, MESSOLONGHI

Arrival at the Athens airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”. Welcome by our tour guide. We drive over the Corinth Canal, Patras and Rion-Antirion and go to Messolonghi. After dinner, we take a walk in the historical city of Messolonghi. Overnight stay at our hotel.

DAY 2: ETOLIKON, ARTA

In the morning we visit the lagoon of Messolonghi, where eels are bred to be exported to Germany. Continue to Etolikon. Along the way we visit the sea salt systems (Aliki of Messolonghi). These are the largest in the country. You have the opportunity to see the processing of sea salt here. After visiting the sea salt systems, the journey continues to the lagoon of Etolikon where the observation of different bird species is possible. Continue to Tholoi where fishermen catch the two fish species Labrax Lupus and Mugli Cephalus for red caviar (Avgotaracho = Fish Roe). Continue via Agrinion Amfilochia to Arta. Dinner, and overnight stay.

DAY 3: KORONISSIA, AMVRAKIKOS

Morning drive to Koronissia where we see the lagoon Logarou (lunch). In the early afternoon we go up on a walk to Salaora hill from which we look out over the whole of Amvrakikos. We see the gulf, where the two rivers Arachtus and Luros lead. Consequence of these mouths was the emergence of three lagoons, which are very rich in fish. This ecosystem is under strict protection, under the Treaty of Ramsar. There are birds that are very rare as the Pelecanus crispus, the Ergetta Garzetta and Philacocorax Carbo. Return to Arta. Dinner, and overnight stay.

DAY 4: BOAT TRIP, IOANNINA

In the morning we have a boat trip (with fishing boats) to the lagoons Rodia and Tsoukaliou.

These are two of the three lagoons that have emerged from the mouth of the river in Luros Amvrakikos Gulf. Continue to Ioannina. Dinner and rest in Ioannina.

DAY 5: KIPI, VIKOS GORGE

In the morning we drive from Ioannina to Kipi. We visit the unique beauty of Vikos Gorge, where we are in the midst of incredibly beautiful mountain landscape of 46 picturesque villages, the Zagorochoria with their peculiar distinctive architecture – on both sides of the gorge, on the slopes of Mitsikeli. Meadows and pastures, rich flowing streams, stone bridges, old mansions, beautiful churches and a lavishly lush vegetation are the natural backdrop for these villages. The National Park Vikou – Aou was created to protect the unique flora and fauna of Epirus. It includes the Vikos – Gorge, the deeply entrenched river bed of Aous and the nearby area with the villages micro – and mega Papingo. Dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 6: PERAMA CAVE, METEORA

Departure from Ioannina to Meteora. Visit the Perama Cave (near Ioannina), which with its stalactites and stalagmites, is considered one of the most beautiful and interesting caves in the country. We continue via Metsovo (coffee break) to the Meteora Monasteries. At the unworldly place on the gray rocks high above the eagle’s nests, lie the monasteries of the Meteora community. Sightseeing. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Kalambaka.

DAY 7: KASTORIA, MONASTERY MARIOTISSA

In the morning we drive to Kastoria. Early morning visit to the lake of Kastoria and the byzantine monastery Mariotissa. In the evening we have the opportunity to take a stroll in the lovely town. Overnight stay in Kastoria.

DAY 8: LAKE PRESPA, FLORINA

Morning drive to Lake Prespa, which belongs to three countries: Albania, FYROM and Greece. Visit the small prespa Lake. This is one of the few areas of Europe where rare birds live and nest. There is also a resting place for rare species of migratory birds. After the Treaty of Ramsar this area is strictly protected. We then continue to Florina.

DAY 9: EDESSA WATERFALLS, VERIA, KATERINI, LITOHORO

Drive to Edessa, visit the local waterfalls. Continue via Veria (the area between Edessa, Naoussa and Veria is especially fruitful, especially vines and fruit trees), Katerini to Litohoro which is located at the foot of Mount Olympus (2,917 m). Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Litohoro.

DAY 10: ST DIONYSIUS MONASTERY, OLYMPUS

In the morning we drive to the Monastery of St. Dionysius (1,100 m, on Mount Olympus). From there, the descent begins back to Litohoro (approx. 3 hours), through a gorge with some very rare trees and flowers that are native only in the area of Olympus. It may be possible to observe chamois and eagles. Then we return to Athens via the Tempi Valley. Dinner and overnight stay in our hotel.

DAY 11: SARONIC ISLANDS, AEGINA, POROS, HYDRA

After embarking in the port of Piraeus we drive to the first and largest of the Saronic islands of Aegina. In a densely wooded hill is one of the best preserved temples of antiquity, dedicated to the goddess Aphaia. The second Saronic island is the green island of Poros, with the lively waterside promenade .The third island, Hydra, a rocky island with its picturesque harbor and mansions, is a summer residence for many artists and is one of the most beautiful islands in the Aegean Sea.

DAY 12: ATHENS, ACROPOLIS, CITY TOUR

We have a morning city tour in Athens with a visit to the world famous Acropolis, the symbol of Athens, and the National Museum. Ride and tour of the modern and ancient city of Athens (Temple of Zeus, University, National Library, Royal Palace, Panathenaic Stadium) . We have some time for shopping in the old town of Athens, Plaka. Then drive to the Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”. Return to your point of origin.
