Greece and Malta

Travel on a round trip to Greece and enjoy her sights before visiting Malta!

Itinerary:

Day 1: FLIGHT TO THESSALONIKI
Welcome by our guide then tour the city of Thessaloniki. Visit the cathedral of Agios Dimitrios with the catacombs and the beautiful church of Agia Sophia. Then we continue to Kavala to our hotel, rooms are distributed, dinner and overnight stay in Kavala.

Day 2: KAVALA, LYDIA AND FILIPPOI
After breakfast we will go to Lydia in Kavala, where the Apostle Paul baptized the first Christian woman on European soil. Continue to Philippi, the first community of Apostle Paul (Roman market, theater, royal). Some free time in the city of Kavala; then continue to the port for a cup of Greek coffee and/or lunch. In the afternoon trip to Mount Olympus in Paralia Katerini. Dinner and stay overnight in Katerini.

Day 3: VERIA, VERGINA, VERMIO KALAMBAKA
After breakfast we begin our journey towards Veria, Apostle Paul famously visited Veria. Visit the Apostle Paul steps. Then go to Vergina, which was made known all over the world just 30 years ago because of the excavation of the royal tombs. These unique findings, the tomb of King Philip II, father of Alexander the Great; let us assume that the Vergina, then Aigai, was the first capital of Macedonia. We continue our journey to Vermio for the Monastery of Panagia Sumela. In the evening we continue to Kalambaka. Dinner and stay overnight in Kalambaka.

Day 4: METEORA, ATHENS
After breakfast, we travel to Meteora. Guided tour of the famous, built on high rocks of sandstone, monasteries of Meteora. These monasteries suspended between heaven and earth, were created in the 14th century. We visit 2 monasteries and are told about the importance of the Byzantine-Orthodox monasticism in Greece and Eastern Europe. The evening continues on route to Athens. Dinner and overnight stay in Athens.

Day 5:ATHENS
Our morning begins, with a tour of the city of Athens. We’ll go through Omonia and Syntagma Square, passing by the Panathenaicos Stadium (break for photos), which in 1896 was host to the first modern Olympics, the Royal Palace, the Temple of Zeus, and the Acropolis. We will visit the Propylaea, the Erechtheion, the Temple of Nike and the Parthenon. Then we will make the path to the University Street, passing by Schliemann’s house, the Academy and the University. In the afternoon we return to the hotel. The rest of the day is free. After dinner overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 6: CORINTH, EPIDAURUS, MYCENAE, ATHENS
The morning trip to the Corinth Canal (global reputation and built at the end of the 19th century as artificial joint between the Saronic Gulf and the Gulf of Corinth) 15 minutes break for photos. We continue the trip to Ancient Corinth. We have a guided tour at the archaeological sites, the market, the church and the museum. Passing by some vineyards and old gnarled olive trees we arrive at Epidaurus, the place of worship and treatment centre of Asklepios. Visit the museum and theater, famous for its acoustics. Many summer festivals take place here (Epidaurus Festival). We continue the journey to Mycenae. Visit the well-preserved cyclopean walls, the royal tombs and the great Lion Gate, the oldest record of monumental sculpture in Europe. Here the archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann began in 1874 with the excavation and discovered the royal tombs of Atreus and the vast treasures. Return to Athens in our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Athens.

Day 7:FLIGHT FROM ATHENS – MALTA
Flight from Athens to Malta, transfer to the hotel and stay for two nights. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8:VALETTA
Tour of the current capital of the island, view of the port facilities, bays, fortresses, port areas of the gardens Upper Barrakka Gardens. Stroll through the narrow streets of the city, founded in 1566 with the various hostels of the Knights, the Church of St. Paul, and the former Hospital of the Order and the Palace of the Grand Master. In the afternoon we will visit the church of Agios Ioannis (St. John’s Co-Cathedral) with side chapels and the oratorio, the National Museum in the former Auberge des Provence and Malta Experience Show. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 9:TARXIEN
We go to the large complex Tarxien temples. Then go to the southwestern coast: Complex temples Hagar Quim. We then proceed to Mdina, the extremely elegant old capital. Stroll through the city like it’s a museum. Visit the Cathedral of Apostle Paul’s Church. Continue to Rabat: Visit the museum, sacred grotto of the Church of Apostle Paul and the Catacombs. In return tour of mysterious double lines in the area of Minsija. We arrive at the hotel for two nights, dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 10:GOZO
Path by bus and ferries to the island Gozo: Visit the temple complex of Ggantija. City Tour Victoria, visit the Cathedral. Panoramic view from the walls of the citadel throughout Gozo. Go to the church Tapinu, brief tour. Back on the main island: continue in Apostle Paul’s Bay, the traditional site of the shipwreck. Dinner and overnight stay in Hotel Selmun Palace

Day 11:FLIGHT TO HOMELAND
Transfer to Malta airport and flight home.
