Attica and Euboea

This tour focuses greatly on the Attica region, as well as Greece’s second largest island in size and population – Euboea

Itinerary:

Day 1: ATHENS
Scheduled flight from your point of origin to Athens. Hotel check-in for three nights.

Day 2: LYCABETTUS HILL, BENAKI MUSEUM, ROMAN FORUM
Ascend with the cable car to Lycabettus Hill for a full panoramic view of the city of Athens. In the afternoon we visit the Benaki Museum, which provides a comprehensive insight into Greek history and culture of early antiquity to the 20th century; View selected objects. Then some free time or an opportunity to visit the Roman Forum with Hadrian’s Library and Tower of the Winds.

Day 3: FILOPPAPOS MONUMENT, ACROPOLIS, HEPHAESTUS TEMPLE, KERAMEIKOS
View the Filopappos monument, and then have a guided tour of the Acropolis and the new Acropolis museum. Visit the sites at the foot of the Acropolis: Theatre of Dionysos, Origin of Greek drama; Stoa of Attalos and Asklepios sanctuary. Then we have a walk through the Agora Hephaestus Temple, the best preserved in Greece. Archaeological walk across the Kerameikos (German excavation of the ancient cemetery).

Day 4: AMPHIARIO, CHALKIDA, EVRIPOS CANAL
Morning drive to the scenically located in a pine grove on the north coast of Attica, to the sanctuary of Amphiarios (Amphiario), where pilgrims went to seek oracular responses and healing. Then on to Chalkida on the island of Euboea /Evia. We go on a city walk for sightseeing: Evripos channel, Gothic church of Agia Paraskevi, formerly early Byzantine basilica(5th / 8th century.), market halls, synagogue. Hotel check-in for two nights in Euboea /Evia.

Day 5: ERETRIA, AMARINTHOS, KYMI
Visit the great archaeological site Eretria on the west coast of Euboea: theater, Dinoysos Temple, West Gate, Palace, Temple of Artemis. Then, Amárinthos to the monastery of St. Nikolaos with post-Byzantine frescoes from the 16th century. Then we have a scenic drive over Aliveri after Kymi, the “Balcony of the Aegean” in a wonderful location. We visit the nearby Saviour Monastery on the north coast. Free time in Paralia Kymis.

Day 6: RHAMNOUS FORTRESS, LAVRIO, SOUNIO
Return to the mainland and go to one of the most important archaeological sites of Attica: Rhamnous fortress, known in antiquity for its Sanctuary of Nemesis: remains of two temples and a city wall; Marathon cites the grave mound of the Athenians, of those who died in the Greco-Persian wars (490 BC) Brauron (Vravrona), once a major sanctuary of Artemis; Lavrio, known for its ancient silver mines; Finally Sounio: where we see the classical Temple of Poseidon with extensive panoramic view. We then go to the hotel in Vougliameni in Athens for three nights.

Day 7: ATHENS GUIDED TOUR, KAISARIANI
In the morning we visit the Byzantine Museum, followed by a tour through the Old Town (Plaka) with its humble churches from the middle Ages. In the afternoon we have a trip to the Hymettus mountain to Kaisarianí: Visit the monastery church from the 10th-16th Century. We then have an opportunity to take a walk with a distant view of the city of Athens.

Day 8: AGIA MARINA, APHAIA TEMPLE, NEKTARIOS MONASTERY
Crossing by boat from Piraeus to Agia Marina (Aegina). We have a short walk (climb) to Aphaia Temple of the classical period (5th Century BC). From there we take the bus to Nektarios Monastery in the centre of the island, this site of action and Memorial is one of the most important Greek recent Saints. We then have a guided tour of the classical-influenced city Aegina, with a possible visit to the small local museum. Free time.

Day 9: RETURN HOME
Transfer to the airport. Return flight to your point of origin.
